FWIW, I never gave the sticker lady money, she was an obvious sham. She prayed on wide eyed tourists and feel sorry for everyone arts students. I, on more than one occasion, advised people who were about to donate money to her not too.

Anyhow, it isn't worth much IMO. I have already said numerous times that many homeless people are just plain lazy and are taking advantage of people. This is the case here. The point I am trying to make is that you can't lump them all into this category as some so conviniently do. There are homeless people who are trying hard to get off the streets, and given the opportunity would gladly take a job. You cannot lump them all in together because of bad stories, no matter how numerous.

I would say over the course of a year I give maybe $300-$500 dollars in change to homeless people. That is just a guess, I really have no idea how much change I accumulate in my pockets. Out of that I would estimate 80% goes to people who don't deserve it. I choose to give because in my eyes that 80% is outweighed by the good of the 20%. That's just me, and I certainly understand and respect arguments to the contrary. I don't want anyone to do something they don't believe in, but I don't want people thinking all homeless are lazy pukes, it's simply not true.

If it's simply not true.....then why are they there ?

It's because of people like you that we are inundated by these scumbags. If you didn't give them anything....they'd figure it out. Society fends for them already.....so they don't need your spare change.....or mine.

You're right. Every single homeless person is a lazy scum bag, how foolish of me to think differently. Like the one peters mentioned that he got a job for, what a lazy sack of **** that guy must be. I'm sure he will quit soon because he is just lazy.

And I am sure that Peters will post here as soon as the guy does..........but it's not those people who want to work and are temporarily unfortunate that we are talking about......is it ??????

It never is.....but they are the first ones trotted out as a canard by the bleeding heart advocates for street bums as actual examples, when in fact it was never them that were being discussed in the first instance. The reason for that is because you have no excuses for the ones we are really attacking.

    -----------------------

Anyways.......if they are not lazy scumbags..........why are they there ? You offered no explanation for that.

Perhaps I can however........all the lazy homeless people are living on their yachts and in their mansions.............the truly motivated ones are on the street corners with hat in hand contributing to society and improving their lot in life for their own personal betterment.

Yes it is those people I am talking about, that is exactly what I am talking about. I have said so many times that a lot of homeless people are lazy. BUT, a lot of you have made sweeping generalizations about all homeless people, saying they're all lazy and wouldn't be there if they didn't want to be. Fact remains, some people are there against there wishes, and need a little help to get back on there feet. All I have said is that I am happy to offer that.
I never tried to make excuses for them, infact, I admitted to there existence numerous times. I don't give two ****s about these lazy asses who choose to be career beggars, I care about the ones who want help.
**** happens man, that's why they are there. Life is hard sometimes, and when people have no where else to go, they may end up on the street. Certainly some people decide to give up, and that's there choice and I don't agree with it, nor would I give them money if I knew that to be the case. But, some of them genuinely want help. I am not going to interview every homeless person I come across to determine if they are deserving of my money, so I give them all a couple dollars in hopes that some of it reaches people who will use it to get back on their feet.

I think we are very much in different chapters here when we should be at the very least on opposite sides of the page.

I am by no means a bleeding heart. I am a hard ass about many many things. I hate the fact that some homeless make it their job to sit and beg me for money, that they have no drive, no ambition, no desire to give back to society and live a normal life. That pisses me off just as much as anyone. I, however, feel sorry for the people who are there because of circumstances beyond their control. I choose to help these people by giving them some change even if it is of little help. Sure my taxes go to fund homeless shelters and soup kitchens, but I am happy to do more. I cannot determine who is and who is not deserving of a few dollars out of my pocket, but everytime I give I hope that the person will use it to help themselves. I don't give money to the "sticker ladies" or the people I have seen sitting in the same spot for the last 5 years, I do exercise some judgemet.

I just don't like the fact that so many people here seem to write them all off as lazy.

Its a vicious circle . **** happens , lose your job , car + home payements , no money , expropriated = Bam , homeless.

Now , how are you going to find a job with no address ? With nowhere to shower ? No clean clothes ?

Of course you can find a job on a day to day basis but it will always be something fragile . Its going to be difficult to open a bank account , to rent a flat ..etc...

Im sure most of them would rather have a job than be humiliated on the streets .

    Ex girlfreind chiefy ;)
What would you have done if you saw a homless guy asleep on the street and some 20 something kid spit on him with no provokation whatsoever. Incidentally he admitted when asked that he did it because he thought it was funny.

I am actually more conservative in my political views than liberal peters. I voted conservative last election. I just have some compassion for people who need help like this, people who will do well with it. Don't get me started on rehabilitating criminals or anything where people make the concious choice to wreck there lives.

I don't need to lie to make freinds or impress people on the internet nor would I do so. But, it isn't really something I can prove very easily, I didn't have my "real tv' crew following me at the time. I can see why you would think it's BS though, and if you choose to do so there isn't much I can do about it.

Hey, a question for some of you homeless experts. I hardly ever see those homeless guys at intersections who want to wash your windshield anymore. Has that gone out of vogue?

I know that it is illegal in Toronto as of maybe 4 years ago. You still see them the odd time, but they don't stand on the corners, they just fly in out of nowhere wash your window brown water then dissapear.

Scene 1: Shiggins struts through the streets of Toronto, looking for crimes to thwart.
Scene 2: Drunk young punk stumbles down street, sees a bum, and spits on him. He turns to his girlfriend and laughs, the epitome of spoiled rich punks hated by all.
Scene 3: Shigging confronts the 20 y/o kid, winks at said kid's beautiful girlfriend, and beats the crap out of him. As expected, punk is all talk, and could not defend himself against the barrage of super-human punches thrown by Shiggins.
Scene 4: Girlfriend goes weak at the knees and throws herself into the arms of hero Shiggins, holding back tears while explaining that she is so happy Shiggins has saved her from such a brute.
Scene 5: Shiggins rifles through the brute's wallet, finds $65 in Canadian-Funny-Money, and hands it to the victimized, innocent, and down-trodden homeless guy who has tried his damndest in life, but has been stepped on by "the man" at every step.
Scene 6: Bum looks with admiriation at hero Shiggins; Girlfriend melts into hero Shiggin's arms; brute wakes up and realizes what a terrible human being he is; Shiggins inwardly smiles at himself, remarking on what a great, amazing, honorable, and decent human being he is.

A day in the life of Shiggins the wonder man, or cheap, B-movie hollywood script?

    YOU DECIDE!!

I see them ALL the time here. Your in Houston right? Check out the 59 & Hillcroft area or Westheimer & Post Oak (Ideal spot to be at for a "windshield wiper"). Most of them seem to hang out on the 59 feeder roads under the bridges.

haha, not quite, that is certainly a more entertaining version though.

I never beat the guy up. He was drunken aggressive because I asked him why he did that and his girlfreind agreed with me that it wasn't funny. I guess he thought we were picking on him. Some conversation later he whipped out his wallet and showed me all the money he could give to a homeless person if he wanted too without caring. I was all fine to let it go but as he went to cross the street he spit on me, I pushed him to the ground, he dropped his wallet that he was waving around I took maybe a 1/4 of the money that was in there as a "cost to clean" my jacket and proceeded to toss it in the sleeping bag of the homeless guy, he just got up, cursed a bit and walked away. I saw his girlfreind about 2-3 weeks later at my university and we started chatting. She had broken up with him in the time between us meeting.

    It really isn't that spectacular.
