Eric; you da man! Remarkable. Very generous. BTW, I tried to do a stint with DWOB a couple of years ago, I called and offered 6 weeks; they said they were not interested in any doc that could give less than 6 months. Interestingly, they insist on paying the docs a small stipend ($13k IIRC) , but will not accept someone willing to donate 6 weeks for free....go figure! Shutting the office for 6 months is professional suicide, not sure how people can do that if they are not in big groups.
Yes, I read that also. My wife is a Fed w/ HHS (JHU Masters Degree) and I thought she might like to donate time. Then I also read that spouses (ME) couldn't go with. That stopped that idea. I guess they have a system that works. I think a doctor willing to give, say, 2 months of their time should be worth consideration, but what do I know? I just do what I can....... I commend you on trying.........
Don't worry about Gentry......... I will MATCH my own donation IF NO ONE BRINGS HIM UP IN THIS THREAD AGAIN for the next 100 GENUINE posts (meaning people are not just posting to post) unless he wants to show his own contribution to this thread. So, if you do, you just cost the people in need an honest donation. If someone brings up this issue again, I'm out........ Anyone want to question me? Let's keep these posts of donations going.... It's really great to see everyone contribute. BTW- I'm laying it down to the MID- Atl crew ...where u at?
Last night I donated $250 to Direct Relief International. I was impressed with their accolades from Forbes for being an efficient charity. Since I did it before seeing this thread I don't have my ID number, but I'll be more than happy to post a scan of my AMEX bill when it comes, if anybody's interested. Jeremy
BRAVO!! INDEED NOTHING MORE NEEDS TO BE SAID HERE! LETS FOCUS ON "REALITY" AND THOSE WHO TRULY NEED ASSISTANCE!!
fo sho, EC to the fullest. Let me reallocate some of my funds and i will have something to contribute.
I'm a newbie here and didn't know about this thread until now. Anyway, I won't mention you know who's name so that LetsJet can fulfill his promise to help more people. I hope more folks on this board will do the same as all of us here are very fortunate. Here's my donation - confirmation: redcross-donate-8490 = $1000.00.
Donated $500 to World Vision today (reference number is: 135156 ... why are we quoting proof?) for the Asian tsunami disaster. Will be taking clothes, etc. to a charity tomorrow ... Come on FChat, lets get behind these people (and others). Pete ps: If you don't like the Red Cross ... well there are heaps of others to donate to.
NOW WE'RE BACK ON TRACK. DOING WHAT WE SHOULD BE DOING. ERIC, A+. THANKS TO YOU AND JOHN FOR REMINDING US WHAT THIS SHOULD BE ABOUT. Dave
This disaster will be needing financial contribution for many months if not years to come before this area is being restored and the lifes of these people back in their own hands. I can only suggest that we do not lose focus in the future. Money is needed today, but money will be needed two months from now as well. A shocking number to me was that the amount pleadged by our president in the amount of $ 35,000,000 (about the same as someone else wanted to give ) is equal to 4 hours of Operation Iraq. As for matching donations: I have recently worked with a foundation that has matched grants from one of our Charity drives. Their pockets are deep and they have an entire foundation setup to do these things with various children organizations. This works well for that foundation but ingeneral, those that give don't need to match up to others. My suggestion G-man would be to give what you can and be quiet about it!
I just made another donation to Doctors Without Borders this time. Let's keep this going strong! Please find below your donation information as it appears in our records. Yeah Martin, maybe we should follow the lead of Germany. We can only give $35,000,000, but Germany just DOUBLED the amount they're going to give. http://www.dw-world.de/dw/article/0,1564,1442282,00.html That's something to be shocked about.
Let us remember that government aid is a small portion of the total aid being donated. Relief agencies transcend nations and are benefitting from everyone's donations, worldwide. It is shameful what a lot of countries are officially giving, in relation to their GDP, but in no way is it a complete picture of what is coming from those countries. It's far more productive to focus on the disaster relief, and donate some money, or raise funds, or volunteer services.
Canada is matching all money given by her people on top 0f0 $40 million we already giving plus Provice are giving meny but non the less most is coming from people themself but still write every one you can in goverment and tell them that this is imporant to you
