How did the tune up go??? Dave
They kind of go in and out of stock at Superformance, but his prices are always good. My car had a VDO sender on it and it had some specs written on it. Unfortunately I don't have the numbers any more (in a notebook that I gave to the new owner), but if someone knows the specs of the gauge sender, you could get one from VDO I'm sure that would work just right with the veglia gauge.
How about 15: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=2492799607&category=34202
Couldn't find the pressure sensor on Superperformance's web site. Ferrari Hong Kong sells them for US$160. Is it resonable? Slim> what is VDO? Dave> My Dino should be ready for pick up tomorrow. The mechanic said the engine was tune twice and it drives like a whole new car now. The faulty tacho meter needs replacement but I will leave it for now. He adviced not to drive the car near the red line, because a 30 year old engine can not handle such stress. This is very disappointing because I love the sound of the engine at high rpm, specially inside a tunnel.
Ray. VDO is a brand name of components for cars. Ferrari UK sells the sender for about $100 US. http://www2.vdo.com/vdo/end_consumer/ec_product_category_and_fza=_and_ID=14.aspx My 30 yr old car revs to the redline like a tiger. I'd like to know why, specifically, he thinks your motor is not up to it. Sounds a little odd to me. THere may be some underlying issue that you can address to take care of it. Ask him for the exact reason he thinks this. It may lead to more repairs, but in the long run, you want a car you can take for a spirited drive. Dave
Dave> the mechanic simply said to me a car this old should only be used for relax cruise, not for any aggressive used. I will ask him what he think might fail. It is good to know that your car can rev strong without problem! The rpm gauge is still very unstable, I might just use the speedometer to work out the rpm. But first I have to use another car to varify the accuracy of the speedometer.
Here is the page on Superformance's website where you will see them for about 40pounds. I think that's about $72. I don't know what you'd pay for postage, but it shouldn't be much. But just because they are on the website doesn't mean they are in stock at Superformance so I'd call to check. http://www.superformance.co.uk/parts/dino2/ignitionelectric2k3.htm
Thanks, Just ordered from Ferrari Hong Kong today. The engine runs smoother and pulls harder now. The excessive fuel smell has gone too.

With regards to revving a Dino high....the original valves are big and heavy, and they only have one collet groove at the top of the valve stem and in the collets. With high rpm and high mileage, the collet ring wears and the top retainer "shuffles" on the collet ring. Eventually, the valve can drop straight through. This problem is exaggerated by the Dino aggressive cam profile. Superformance valves have two collet rings with collets to suit....double the surface area. There has also been many advances in valve profile for better efficiency, but I'm not sure if you can get them easily (I get my own made for my own use, and do not retail them). If you have a concern, get a good shop to rebuild the heads (easy job in situ), and replace all valves and upgrade to lead free stainless seats etc all at once....
problems in the industry with some of the oil pressure senders out there, even the ones that come thru Ferrari dealers! FYI Tom Shaughnessy
