    Here is a seldom mentioned Sultan 456. It is a US model '95 456. It is on Ferrari's record as a Pininfarina Special. The special Sultan touches are softer and more supple leather (note the horse on the seat back instead of the head rest) plusher carpet, different hand brake lever, and the most unique feature is the automatic gearbox - before Ferrari offered it starting in '97. The VIN is 103246.

    Sorry, but I have serious doubts regarding the connection between the 456 on the last pictures and the Sultan. It's simple: the Sultan won't take LHD cars. Only RHD.

    It is indeed very special if this car was originally fitted with an automatic gearbox. Maybe done for another special customer. Thoughts?

    Agreed, not to say that I don't believe you, but, is that a Sears auto center in the background? maybe could have been in US first?

    Yes, i'm having my doubts too. How did you find out this was a Brunei car?


    Also, why would it be US spec? It just doesn't make sense

    I've seen this car at Ferrari of Bev. Hills service (came in for a problem with its automatic window on the driver's side). It is owned by the Bolkiah Family, the Royal Family of Brunei. They do keep number of cars, including several Ferrari 456s, Rolls Royces and Mercedes Benzes in the United States (mostly in So. California). This is a U.S. car and is LHD, and as mentioned it has many special features such as automatic tranny (from Merc. Benz) and special leather. (also I think the car sits about 1/2" lower than stock 456).

    It was a beautiful car, and they do have a couple more 456s like this, done by Pininfarina. I've seen many exotics and luxury cars built for the Bolkiah family, and this is a very good example.

    Thank you. I knew they had other cars in other countries but wasn't aware of any here. Alot of the other ones have been sold...

    When I was at the museum, they said he got them from Pininfarina. I'm going to the museum again tonight. :)

    They were F50's that were delivered to Pininfarina for RHD conversion but it was never performed

    I'm also interested in pictures of the Ferrari's from the Sultan. I know that he also owns a white and a black F40. I've an article with a picture of the white one and you can also see a piece of black one.

    I als have some pictures of a 550 Spider and a coupe. I think it is the same car just with a hardtop because the licensplate is also the same.
