It was Ferrari F1 test driver Andrea Bertolini. He tried today to break the absolute lap record set in 1999 in a Champ Car but he failed by about 1.4 sec. I think Ferrari figured this would be a piece of cake, but really I am not surprised he fell short. They had limited laps, grooved tires vs slicks, track not rubbered in with similar compound rubber, etc, etc. He was pushing quite hard, even put 2 wheels off at exit of turn 5 on one of his laps, but it was not to be. Also speaks to how quick the Champ Cars of that era were.

No official cause given. Cold tires and inexperience with a very fast car are good bets, in my opinion.

pig4bill - We were so close on this pic! It's no coincidence that I'm checking out the 288!! :)

I labled your pic with the 3 F-chatters.

Haha. That car was a magnet. I've seen a lot of other street Ferraris before, but that's the first time I had seen one of those.

Despite worries of missing the entire event my Father and I arrived at our hotel at about 2:30 in the morning Saturday. Woke up at around six (a very healthy amount of sleep!) and headed out to the races, that is we headed out from the Motel Six in King City to the races, nice 45 minute drive to wake up the senses.

I regret not taking many pictures of the Ferrari race cars, I thought you guys would of supplied me with plenty, but apparently you are all the concourse types!

Either way, here are some of the nicer pictures that I took, and one that requires explanation. While the first few are all good old racecar pictures. The last one is in need of some help! Belongs to an English gentleman who was staying at the same place. He had killed it and needed a tow start, so we obliged and towed him around the circular entrance a few times and he managed to start it. Shortly afterward as we were about to leave we noticed he had killed it again. So we stopped and gave him another tow around and he got the car started and running. I hope he kept it going long enough for it to charge up its battery. I'd say it has a very nice shade of patina and would of been a shoe-in for the concourse ;)

I did - but I figured that people would actually want to see the photos, instead of them getting merged into page 13 of a common thread...

Let me catch up posting, switched to the FCA hotel tonight and have hi-speed.

Thursday night got a call from MarkPDX, so the Dallas gang met up with Jordan, Mark, Wayne, Carbon, SrfCty at the Chart House. Darth and a few others showed up later.
