That is amazing. I have the Lotus Esprit S4. I hit 180mph regulary on the super highway in Bangkok. Love the turbo cars. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yes, All i did was removing the cat. and install header exhaust. In first gear, it jump out like a horse. then it keep pulling when turbo kick in every gear. It come to 180 mph at 7200 rpm in fifth gear. But the thing is the clutch and gear feel too solf like a regular sedan. If only the gear and clutch could be firmer, it would be best sport car for the money ever. The performance is way pass the 348 and neck to neck with the 355.
Gary, I love your car..its a real Shark ! Modular wheels and the 250 grill look amazing !! Congrats !
No, it doesn't. And yes, they were 4cyl up to 1997. The S4(264bhp/261ft-lbs) has a top speed of 165mph. A Header and de-cat sure won't provide another 15mph. Sorry, nice Lotus man, but it just isn't happening. The last production Esprit V8's 'only' reach 175mph. I have a 1990SE first of the chargecooled 4cyl. Engine and drivetrain is identical to the S4. The S4s (300bhp/290ft-lbs) recieved a slightly larger turbo, some headwork, and new programming. I have the same mods as the above S4 plus the Red-race code Ecu(good for 330bhp up from 264) double capacity intercooler, water injection etc.... She ain't gettin close to 180, I'll tell you that. A wonderful car it is, but let's not get carried away.
Esprit SE you need 4 more cylinders! Sorry couldn't resist. Agree it would be tough for an SE/S4/S4s to reach 180MPH. Fastest S4s I've seen has 400HP at the rear wheels from a buddy in Cincinnati. Here's some photos of my 1999 V8! Mark
It's probably as far from a Ferrari as could be, yet like a few others I'm a 19 year old college student paying for his own car. I hope to have a Ferrari sometime in my future (hopefully by my 30s!), but for right now this car is fine. Hoping to learn a lot in the years to come I will be on this board!
