There is a great book that pays homage to the subject of this thread by Karl Ludvigsen. It was written in the period so its replete with testing & assembly images. A good read I can testify myself..

i agree. i think it can be expanded to say the 930 is one of the ...if not the most significant sports cars ever made. i would not limit the significance to just porsche.

the 930 was a beast from inception to end.

In 1975 this was an other-wordly shape on the road.

i agree my 79 is a great 930, but still the importance of the 3.0s being a homologation special is why i want one. the mcqueen 930 when it sold at auction for what was it about $150k is a steal compared to the his 73 S which old for over $1MM. here is the best shot of mine which is the also the same profile/shot of other's already posted.

not to hijack....but being a porsche guy in the '70s in the sf bay area [hung out at bob garretsons shop, complete with the abarth carrera in the rafters] i was a bit jaded to nasty p-cars...however the first time i saw a lp400..a real early one, black,.tall tires, no wings...it was truly the most otherworldly thing on wheels i had ever seen. the 930's were, and are, cool but as an employee of atari at the time almost every start-up ceo and team in sunnyvale had one...even now in the palo alto- woodside area it is hard to impress a local with an exotic car of any sort.......[btw.. the nite manager of a downtown eatery drives his one-owner 930 to work..not unusual around here.]

Im willing to bet that it is not an original un-restored 3 liter Turbo Carrera like this one below. Its likely a 3.3 liter 930 which was far more prolifically produced and therefore much more common.

This thread is about the 3 liter Turbo Carrera, 1975 to 1977.

so why or when did they move away from the "turbo carrera" script on the rear deck to the more common "turbo"?

merry xmas all
