First that I've heard of this. I've heard some rumors that Pagani was in development of something special, but a modified version of the recorded breaking Zonda R sounds lovely.

Last month I toured Pagani and was told that a modified version of the R was coming out. IIRC, they were shooting for a lap time that was 10 seconds faster around the Ring than their last time. They didn't elaborate too much on the modifications used and I was in too much awe to remember every detail.

Crazy. Shaving 10 seconds isn't an easy task.

No it's not! We were told July for the Nurburgring test. When we were there they were prepping the car for Monza (I think, have to confirm). That run should have been done earlier this month but I haven't heard anything about it.

My infos say end of June at Goodwood.
Then later than July at the Ring for the new record attempt.

If you thought Pagani had replaced the Zonda with the Huayra, think again. The Modenese purveyor of the most exotic of supercars is apparently willing to continue building Zondas for moneyed buyers who still want them. And far from simply continuing the model it had, Pagani has been further developing the Zonda into ever-more extreme variants.

The latest, according to GTSpirit, will be the Zonda R Evo, a model Pagani is expected to bring to the upcoming Goodwood Festival of Speed. The track-only model would, if speculation manifests, combine the best features of the existing Zonda R (pictured above) with the output of the latest Zonda 760 RS. That means competition-spec suspension, brakes, aero and rolling stock with a 760-horsepower incarnation of the V12 built for Pagani by Mercedes AMG. That, for comparison's sake, is within spitting distance of twice the output of the original Zonda C12 that hit unsuspecting roads at the turn of the millennium.

With that much juice, the Zonda R Evo is tipped to hit 62 mph in under 2.7 seconds and bag a top speed of more than 218 mph. Former Formula One driver and multiple DTM champion Bernd Schneider is expected to drive the ultimate-Zonda-to-date up the hill at the Earl of March's estate at the end of the month.

Pagani are using the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2012 to present the Pagani Zonda R Evolution. It’s the first time the car has been on public display, although we can confirm that it has been testing recently at the Nurburgring. Details are still emerging but we can give you some initial specs!

The Pagani Zonda R Evolution will be driven over the weekend by Bernd Schneider. It features a 760hp-strong V12 AMG engine, an improvement in weight distribution and a new set of aerodynamic parts. Taking a look around the car, we noticed a new central wing, much the same as the Zonda 760 RS we saw recently. A second horizontal rear spoiler has been added below a redesigned whale-tail wing.
