Vettel to lap NJ course on Monday?

Anybody know anything about this? Is attendance possible? Looks like he is going to drive an Infiniti and then hold a press conference.

They have a ways to go and numerous killer potholes to fix before they're ready.

What would having Vettel lap the course at a low congested speed accomplish? Why him unless it's for publicity. This is a hugely Hispanic area around here they should send Alonso not Vettel. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

What are those cars? I saw a pathetic video this morning from the local cable channel 12 that was taken from above at the area where the press conference was held. No audio.

It looked like there was camera equipment on one of the cars so maybe we'll see more later.

BTW, I could hear the donuts being made from my house and that's almost 2 miles away.

What this did to traffic in the area @ 1pm was a mess. All the cars from a 4 lane busy road along the river was diverted to a winding two lane road going up the cliff right past my house.

I don't think this is going to be very popular with respect to the traffic disruptions.

Well I think that 4-5 days of disruption once a year for approx. 100 million additional revenue brought to the area will be easily justifiable.

I contend that not very much money will be spent directly by fans in that area.
So is F1 going to pay the localities that amount directly???????
We've had this discussion before in another part of Fchat.
I just don't see it though I have no doubt that the hapless local politicians will sign on and likely screw us all in the process.

The course they have laid out is part of a major commute thoroughfare as well as a main traffic route for those who live in the area.

Try disrupting the West Side Highway in a similar manner and see what happens. That's a much bigger volume of course but on this side they will be similarly blocking an important route.

Don't get me wrong, I think it'll be neat, for a while. Then I think the local folks will tire of it.

car services, caterers, hospitality workers, ferry services, contributions to the PA of NJ/NY, hotels, ticket receipts, airport fees (Newark).....

Well, you know how when governments get involved in stuff, things tend to get, er, political, so I guess you'll have to forgive the skepticism. No doubt a decent amount of money will come into the area. How much, and will it outweigh the costs? Good news is that since it's a political process, not an economic one, we'll never know.

I can't help but think that traffic must be even more of an issue in Monaco...

With respect to everybody here, is event stands to be HUGELY popular, especially with Bernie Ecclestone changing his view of the US as a "Country" to a continent... So, rather than having 1 or 2 events per year like some other countries, the idea of 4 or 5 events here, plus Canada and maybe even Mexico will raise American awareness of Formula 1... And the event on the cliffs overlooking Manhattan will be the crown jewel of the collection.

I, for one, cannot wait for this event!

That's just the point, I don't think much of any of that will land in the local municipalities. It think this is a boondoggle except for NYC and they have not hassle they've outsourced that to NJ! Increased revenues to Newark airport might help out the the overall region but the one's putting up with the traffic? NO.

Monaco is a completely different situation. Really high rollers and big time gambling. Maybe we could arrange some crap games ... Again, I doubt very many attendees will be frequenting the local businesses. There are some worthy of attendance but not that many. They'll be dropping most of their coin in NYC and with the ferry - whoopee!

If the towns involved aren't at least getting their expenses covered by the promoter then this will really be political issue. Expect an investigation after the event. Hopefully the Republicans can get that much accomplished here.

I just wouldn't want to subject one of my cars to those roads at that speed.

The big uphill stretch currently has some hellacious speed bumps. I'm guessing they slowed down a bit on those.

The sewage treatment plant stretch (stench) will undoubtedly receive a colorful press description and yes you can smell it most of the time. I vote for sh*t chute.

My reservations about the viability of this event aside I've thought many a time that this would make one hell of a street course. I'm just flabbergasted that it's actually come to pass.

After visiting the proposed site... I had been thinking that it was only fitting, in an ironic way, that there was a sewage treatment plant on one segment of the course. Very "New Jersey" of them.

Anyhow, this is the promotional video they were making. Our opinions about location and viability aside, it looks like this thing is really going to happen!
