Post My First Year Summary Costs of Owning 85 Mondial

Well, I have had my ’85 Ferrari Mondial for 12 months now. Below is a summary of what has been done the first year of ownership.

Replaced warm up regulator and exhaust air injection $1356.39
Replace O2 sensor, adjust fuel system, secur purge valve $ 543.47
Replace Hood release switch, replace brake fluid $ 498.31
Clutch Slave cylinder- part $ 205
Throttle spindle, bushing, and throttle- parts $ 400.36
Two window accelerators- parts $ 180
Install new battery, new throttle parts, rebuild window
motors, inspect alternator, re-install window motors $1742.90
Install clutch slave cynlinder, bleed system, install new speakers
Adjust CO/HC mixture after new throttle assembly installed $ 100
Change oil, turn all four rotors $ 500

Total $5,526.43

I had a stalling issue. The WUR and O2 sensor did not resolve issue. It was a spindle/throttle/TPS issue.

Purchased car with 22,000 miles and have driven the car 3,751 miles. Cost per mile for repairs/maintenance is $1.47. Had a hard time getting stalling problem resolved. Spent several thousand to get the idle/stalling problem resolved.

I plan on upgrading to 17" tires using 348 wheels and replacing the convertible top rubber gasket this year. I am hoping the maintenance costs will be much less this year.

Sounds like you got it all sorted right. Did you get the rear windows fixed or front ones?
Also, did you ever fix your 'Slow Down lights' from a few months ago?

thanks,
Mike

It was the front windows. For now, the rear windows go up and down fine.

I did resolve the slow down light problem. I removed the thermocouple wire fromt the catalytic converter and tightly wrapped thermo tape about 3-4 times around the wire for about a foot from the connection. I also looped a spring on the thermocouple wire in case it rubs up against the cat again. I repositioned the thermocouple wire at a different angle when I reattached to the catalytic converters.

My mechanic had removed the cat to make sure it was not the culprit for my stalling problem. I think he installed the thermocouple wire at poor angle which allowed the wire to rub against the catalytic converter. So, stalling problem and slow down light coming on have been resolved.

You need to remove the wire from the cat to properly wrap the thermo tape.
I will post some pictures of the wrapped thermocuple wire in previous post.

Now, let's hope for happy motoring for a while. Still need tires and top gasket, but these items will improve handling and reduce wind noise.

Glad the slow down light problem is fixed. I did the exact same thing on my car.
btw, also noticed that you didn't get belts replaced, valve clearance, or new sparks, may be next on the list for maintenance depending on when it was done last.

All the best and happy Mondialing !

Belts were replaced August '10. So, I will be planning to do a major around 30,000 miles or a couple of years. Probably should replace fuel hoses and radiator hoses as well.

It would be a good idea to check the fuel crossover hoses and replace them if they look at all worn.
