Joe,

I have a friend with a silver M-coupe, 2000MY with right around 100K. Well taken care of and not tracked. Just PM me if you have any interest, the price will be right...

In a perfect world, however, I would find a fully sorted 1979 Lancia Zagato and drive her until the wheels fell off. The lancia was my introduction into Italian cars, and the car to which every car I have ever owned has been measured. Unfortunately, I've had lighters that are less flammable than the electrical system in an old Lancia

Oh well, keep your ideas coming...I am really enjoying this thread.

Black and Gold...she has to be black and gold

I actually had my eye on this one, even sourced some of the parts I would need to do the resto, unfortunately,by the time I finished running numbers, I conceded that it needed way to much work..

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/?cmd=...t_34122wt_1025

As for the road trip. Been there... Drove our old Lancia to Florida. First breakdown was in Baltimore, where we spent three lovely days sourcing and replacing a distributer while staying at a truck stop. Next breakdown was just outside Florida when the shift linkage snapped in my hand, leaving me only third gear. My buddy almost died trying to launch the Zagato on to the Uhauls ramp while still stopping before careening off the other end and into the back of the truck. Towed her ass all the way back home.

Still, the stories and experiences are what that car is all about. I owned her before cell phones were really accessible. As Jeremy Clarkson can attest, the Lancia Zagato is probably one of the most remarkably unreliable cars ever made. However, in my opinion, you would be hard pressed to find a car with more soul. I have so many great stories in that car. Among my great regrets is that I gave up on her and sold her.

I miss her...

Ok, so the other day an F-chatter PM'd me to strongly suggest I consider a particular roadster. Yesterday, I was out to lunch with a few F-car owners, and a few of them also suggested I look at this one particular roadster, which a couple of them owned. In fact, to a man they said that if they could only have one sports car....it would be this one.

So today, I went to a dealership and test drove one. It was...hands down, the most fun I have had in a sports car. What a fricken laugh riot. My daughter/co-pilot and I were laughing our butts off as we flung her around the backroads. I sincerely do not think it is possible to have more fun in a modern sports car. Not terribly fast but telepathically good. I cannot believe how entertaining it was, This car has rocketed to the top of my list.

Anyone want to guess....

Oh, oh! I know! I know! In fact I think I might know that somewhat omnipotent F-chatter.

Does it have two of the least utilized letters of the alphabet in is full name?

Bingo...and boy were you dead on. I had so much fun in that thing, I couldn't believe I had never seriously considered one before.

There are almost as many posts in this Miata-fest thread then there are in the "CS Market" thread. Amazing the love for bad cars and a Seersucker clad Italian guy...

First off, don't knock yourself, the CS wasn't that bad.... you just aren't that good a driver

Second, seersucker's aside, everything you need to know about the Miata can be summed up in two words:

2480 lbs.

Of course, the car also has an w/ultralight flywheel, perfect close ratio tranny and no electronic aids, save anti-lock brakes

...but the real story is the weight.

It makes everything else feel clumsy. I can't even imagine what Don's 1800lb Elan must be like!!!!!!

However, with the sad pending demise of the Elise and Elan, when it comes to modern sports cars, you can't have a more pure driving experience than in a Miata...

I'm not saying I am going to pull the trigger, there are other considerations that I must factor in.

However, let's put it this way....its so good that it is worth the endless ribbing I would get from you, Alex and others

I had a Miata: 1992, 1600cc's, sticky tires. It almost had as good handling as my 1600 lb. Elan. It was fun to drive and got 28 - 30 mpg no matter how hard I drove it; much better than the Elan's 18 - 22 mpg! I would like to have another one; an early NA version, maybe 1800cc's next time. A great daily driver.

I still think 1.8 liters and 2000 lbs is a better choice. And it has Ferrari exotic looks. Handles like a go Kart. Wanna guess? No room for luggage. Jon in Delaware
another Hint:Runs on Japanese technology

Indisputable. But I can barely fit in the thing and it will rattle your filings put as a DD. But you are right, you can't beat an Elise or exige for purity. Sadly they are being discontinued to the best of my knowledge.
