341 Luci Del Bosco is safely at home after a brief detour to stock up on Champagne!!!

Great to meet everyone at last, and perfect weather too. Marc and I will compile the participants list in the next week or so, so everyone can remember who's who!

Have a great time and please take lots of pics of Mr Gandini with the cars.

Is your book going to be there too? If so would be brilliant if Mr Gandini could sign lots of copies that are to be posted to those who have pre ordered the book! Hint, hint!

Well done for organising and arranging!

xxxxx for you all

Paul, the book is still in production, but will be ready in the next couple of months. I did a sample up for the event which showed a few chapters - I'll load this up shortly to www.eaurougepublishing.com , and if you also register your interest in the book on the website I will add you to the mailing list for future updates. I'll also be starting a separate thread on the book shortly. Bal picked up a Khamsin Quaranta polo shirt for you, so at least you can be there in spirit!

The best weekend of my life thanks to all participants

Dear all:

My brain feels like an Escargot forgotten in the frying pan, I woke up at 11am today but I wanted to say many thanks to all who took part and to those who helped it was truly the best weekend of my life.

Doug without you the book would have died when my previous publisher went bankrupt in March 2011 and KHAMSIN QUARANTA could never have happened: thank you beaucoup. Trés beaucoup. Your wife Heather was of precious help all weekend, merci Madame!

To all who took part you were the perfect cohesive group, all enthusiasts, all wonderful people there is no one I disliked which is unique.

I want to thank Philippe Murari who was extremely helpful as was Marco Perdicchia who sorted little troubles but no car was terminally stranded. Only two could not leave their home, one from Berlin (mechanic passed away alas RIP) which was replaced by a Ghibli and one from Paris, all other showed up.

Marius 008 was driven to my home safely last night by yours truly, what a surreal feeling to drive into my part of Burgundy (100 miles south of the event) in a Khamsin.

I am extremely happy to say that everything went well there were no complaints and everyone seemed to have a great time.

To see MM Gandini and Cozza remove the cover from the protoype at Hospices de Beaune was beyond words: bravo Wil for getting it ready in time with your amazing craftsmen: bedankt a lot!

Many thanks to MM Gandini, his daughter Marzia and his wife, to MM Cozza and Collina for their help and for judging the concours.
The last group to visit Meursault on Sunday morning was small but it was the best visit of the whole weekend.

Many thanks to P. for lending me his Bellagio to drive for the whole weekend that was very special.

Once again many thanks to all who took part and helped from the beginning like Pierre and to the last day like Philippe, without you it never would have happened.

Right off to fall asleep by the side of a swimming pool!

Will post photos in a day or two, all participants will receive concluding emails and a CD by mail. My MKR website will have a photo page up soon as well and K40 will be included in the book.

I will also post small videos I did and a higher quality video was made by one of the participants, we will soon know how that will be available.

best regards to all from a happy boy!

Marc

Bertone Badge Question

I concur with all comments so far (and all upcoming ones as well!) that the Quaranta event was by far one of the best automotive experience of all times. The combination of the setting, the participants and the activities planned made it incomparable, a great thank you to Marc and Doug!

Of course, as in everything else in life, having so many perfect Khamsins in one location has meant adding a few detail needs to my already long list, one of them being the Bertone badge which my car is lacking. If anyone who would have an original one installed (I believe the original ones were metal as opposed to plastic) could you please give the location of the badge, ie how many centimeters from the bottom and the left of the wing and how far below for the Bertone script? Could I also ask to confirm the wording, either bertone by itself or disegno de bertone?

Anyone who may need them, Black Barts Emporium has them listed on their website at http://www.black-barts.com/page27.html.

Thank you in advance,

Pascal

Hello Pascal,

Glad to hear that everyone a such a great time at K40.

Thanks for the link to Black Barts. From the images on that web link, my car appears to have badges AR35 and AR21. If no one else does so, I will post the measurements later this week.

Best regards,
Carmine

433 also has returned safely today after a return trip in excess of 1300 miles (I haevn't made the exact calculations)

I have to echo all the previous comments, it will go down as one of my most precious memories for years to come. As Otto and others have already said so many nice people all brought together by a common love. I hope the new acquaintances made become long term friendships as per Marc's comment in that there was no one person there that you didn't like.

I've a lot of pictures to sort through and will try to upload any that are worth while.

Marc & Doug, thank you for organising a truely great event

Notting but compliments!

No words can discribe how wunderfull the Quaranta was for me and my brother Ivo. All the compliments to the organisation, the Khamsin owners and all participants. And above all : the people with camera's. Because an event like this can never be memorized enough

My brother and I are glad that Marc is now "a happy boy", because we have seen and noticed how much energy he put in this event. No need to say that meanwhile Marc made a lot of people very happy!

Talking about pictures: here is one of two other "Happy Boys", with special thanks to Wil, the owner of the prototype. His passioned research was and is amazing. It was an honour to work for him.

A big thanks to Marc and Doug for arranging the Quaranta!

Hanne and I had a great time, and we really felt we where among friends.

Khamsin 008 is still in France, but in two weeks my friend René and I will meet Marc and pick it up. Most likely we will visit Le Mans Classic on our return, so some 2500 kms. will be driven over three days. When we are back in Norway the car will have some maintenance and the prop shaft will be balanced. I'm also inspired to do some upgrades to the interior, paint and other details, as the car was really under par compared to all the nice Khamsins.

Some pictures from the event.

Best regards

Hi Pascal

I was wondering about the original Bertone badge myself and found it also here:
http://www.maseratinet.com//pc-17653...one-badge.aspx

Not sure which one is the original, #160 has 'disegno di bertone', which according to Wil seems not to be the original, but maybe it's also one of these "mysterious" things that changed from car to car...

cheers, Lucas

Passenger foot rest

Well done to Marc in organising the Quaranta.

Does anyone know where to get a passenger foot rest for a Khamsin?

Many thanks

You could try the usual suspects, MIE, Maserati Source or Bill McGraths. Not being able to compare but it may have been used on other cars as well. Maybe someone with more info will be along to respond

Photo gallery

Hi all,

Thanks much for the kind words, went back to the host hotel today to pick up my own car since I was a Khamsin chauffeur Sunday:-)

Just received the photogallery from Arnaud Meunier who covered the event for us:

http://ampa.voila.net/khamsin/khamsin.html

Enjoy!

He was amazing because it seemed he had a secret helicopter, he was everywhere on the 200km Tour route!

I will also in a day or two be posting photos by Didier Charre who covered other sections of the Tour de Bourgogne.

Arnaud has posted me a disc with...800 (!) photos so I will make a selection and post each participant a disc.

Concluding participant email coming tomorrow, I will also catch up with all post event emails, thank you, danke, merci for all who sent one, sorry for being a bit slow this week, just running on 4 cylinders!

best regards,

Marc

PS: Participants are free, beyond the disc that I will send you as a gift, to order tailor made posters etc from Arnaud who is a top pro.

Non participants can also order if they wish.

Neither I nor Doug are involved it is between you and Arnaud.

The rights are open for articles (I will issue a press release in a few days and send it to most European and US Classic car magazines) but not for books, that is reserved for our book.

I am by the way doing a big article on K40 for Classic & Sports Car.

best regards,

Marc

A question I should have posed at K 40, but my car does not appear to have had these Bertone badges on the front wings (Fenders). I noticed that some others at K 40 didn't haves these either and wondered whether they were supposed to be standard fit from the factory or did they drop them at any point during production? Would be interested in other's view on this.
(My car is MY1980 for the UK market)

K40 More Please....and Badages

Hi Balbir
Your obeservation is correct. and Marc has mentioned this and knows a more precise time. From My oberservations its effectively around the time of the second series (non tomb stone seats and the nose grill) that they stopped installing badges.

More pictures please, the detail is fantastic what a fantastic venue.

Thanks for that Graeme. I'll post up some more pics soon, just having to get used to the reality of work again after spending several days sampling fine wines and food.

Hi all:

A gazillion more photos coming don't worry.

How lucky were we with the weather?

There is a black wall advancing with thunderstorms....and hail...but since this afternoon I have to do my taxes (how is that for a rude awakening:-( LOL I am going to rush to the lake and have a quick swim before zee black wall arrives...then can be the last person in Burgundy to file his tax return at midnight minus one minute:-)

best regards,

Marc

PS: The B badge: Signor Cozza told me it was on all the cars but the glue did not resist all the car washes...
