Grazie Peter. I also appreciate the black/red color combo of your Jarama.

If it was my car I would paint the horns matt black so they were effectively invisible.

Funny you should mention that. That's exactly what the factory did. They did a pretty sloppy job of it too. They just slobbered black paint all over the horns and red hose. I find that most owners don't like the sloppy paint look all that much. Mine are black anyway but the hose is red. There's a ton of black in that engine compartment so some owners like a bit of contrast.

i respectfully disagree ! seeing the red horns thru the mesh is just one more thing that used to be .... Today no one would would dream of doing that on a car . I like things old and different . Its an Espada.
By the way where can i get some new red hose?? Can Anyone help with this request? Gary 8394 |

.Seeing the horns IMO makes the front grill look very amature, like somebody just threw some mesh on the front of the car because the original grill was damaged. Hiding the horns will not highlight this, I believe. Pete |

Leave yours as is. I'll have a talk with the judges at Pebble next year. I have a very nice Beretta I can show them while I'm there ... Last edited by staatsof; 10-27-2011 at 09:11 PM. |

So you don't like my "amature" front grill with red horns? Also my red ignition wires I presume? What the heck! It's my car and I want it effectively that way.. Philippe S2 7987 www.lamborghinimiura.com |

Horn colour...
Quote:
The horns were normally placed in the engine bay , on the inner fender , by the brake boosters , but they could be located other places. There is an extra electric circuit in some espadas to connect an electric "city horn" if you opted for it from the factory, but this is not mounted on my car. I do believe a location for that horn would be in the grill. ( a weaker horn ). And YES , there is probably not many lamborghinis who are exactly the same , they were all a little different in some way - the factory did many strange things , sometimes on request. http://www.huskyclub.com/tavpaintcolors.html Best regards , Jon - Espada S3 owner from Norway , europe. Really ...
From what I have observed on S1 and S2 cars they were placed in the front behind the grill. Perhaps they moved them on later S2 cars but I think what you're referring to are the S3 cars and many things were different on those. Your reference for color is simply a website. Belongs to a friend of mine but it's not the absolute last word on such things. There's no such thing. All we have are the observations of owners and then probably the best documentary evidence is photos from auto magazines from that time frame. With regard to the what the poster suggested about painting them black. I suspect that at some point in time the factory decided that they wanted to hide the horns. That's why mine are black in color from Fiamm and have no traces of any color other than the Fiamm badge on the end. Then to make them even less visible Lamborghini slopped paint on the red hose and on mine they even covered over the Fiamm badge and the chrome trim ring at the base of the horns. I highly doubt this was a customer requested special option. The effect wasn't terribly attractive because of how poorly it was execute. I originally thought it was done by the PO but then I saw other's painted this way in magazines from the early 1970s. Here are three examples all with blacked-out horns and you can even see one one of them where they missed some of the red hose. #8538 a later S2 #7260 S1 #7293 S1 (glass roof Espada") Mine is #7996 an early S2 Quote:

Gee it does make you understand how hard it is for show judges, and also for people that show cars.

Exactly. Or trying to argue the point with a judge. Anyone claiming to know exactly what's correct is just kidding themselves. I only know what I've seen so far.

Hehe.. well I only have an S3 and that is the car I really know a little about. I do remember that I have seen S2 cars also with the horns in the engine bay too , but they were maybe late production. (also seen some cars which seems to be a mix of s2/s3 items... strange ! )
Anyway , best of luck with your cars , it is always interesting to follow the threads here. Jon , S3 "9462". Last edited by Jon Venstad; 10-30-2011 at 03:50 AM. |
