Good riding up here in Lake Tahoe. Been on a Kona Coiler that's been built up to a Coil Air: Fox 32 Float Fork, Fox DHX Air rear shock, Shimano Deore XT components, Hayes disc brakes. I thought I would need the travel for my 230 pounds of speed and grace being a clydesdale rider, but I hardly use it all. The classic Panaracer Smoke is a great all surface tire for our terrain.

I'm on a Specialized Roubaix Comp for the roadie bike. It's nice to keep a cadence at times as well.

There's no need to get a new bike, it can be an expensive investment to get into only to find out you don't like it. Most places will rent their equipment, and you can find a geometry you like. Looking back, I would have gone with an XC bike instead of a freeride bike, but it's still a blast. It's a fun learning curve to get into.

A good place to check out used bike is: www.pinkbike.com You can find some really good deals on it. It's kind of like a consignment website for bikes.

That is just insane.

Just bought an '06 Schwinn Mesa(pre-bankruptcy schwinn) XT everything, Bomber Pro Lo, Cane Creek Hs. I loved the frame- its extremly upgradable- so out with the old in with the new. The only factory parts on it now besides the frame, is the seatpost and half of the brakes (pads and levers are upgraded)
Hopefully this awful NE weather will end soon so i can get out there!

WOW! That's one of the coolest videos I've seen in a while. What's the elevation change from start to finish? I don't know if they were making those jumps downhill or on flat land...I could never do that either way, lol.

Love mtb'ing, has been doing it for more than 15 years, I do mostly XC.

It ain't about the bikes, but what the heck, one of my bikes:

Heresy! Lance lies!

Sure, I don't NEED my carbon frame mountain bike and I would be just fine on a cheaper metal frame, but it's a hell of a lot of fun and I can go faster because I'm having to continually accelerate a heavy bike. I also ride road and I am getting ready to pull the trigger on a new road bike frame that I absolutely don't need because it's one of the best looking bikes I have ever seen. There is nothing wrong with my current road bike. Nothing at all. It just doesn't move me the way the one I want does.

Incidentally, tonight I discovered that my mountain bike was stolen out of my parents garage (I don't have room for both bikes) within the last week or so. If anyone comes across a 2011 Specialized Epic Expert Carbon 29er, white with red accents, size large for sale on eBay, Craigslist or at your LBS, pawn shop, swap meet, out of the back of an El Camino, etc. please let me know.

I ride my bike almost everyday. I've been doing it since 1986. At that time the first American bikes arrived over here.
I've started with a Muddy Fox Courier Comp and an Alu Team Pro
After that I've ridden Klein bikes for a very long time. My current bike is a Seven IMX:

Yes, it's a tall bike but so am I ;-)

Just got into Mountain Biking myself.

Picked up a felt 620 just to see if I'd like it enough to justify something better in the near future.

I'm hooked.

The shop that sold me the FELT suggest GIANT for the upper level models Trance advanced X SL being the top. They say the Maestro suspension system and the wide headtube design of the Giant are the best combo. Plus Giant is a large manufacture company where Felt and Yeti are more boutique.

Nothing to crazy in my area but what like is that I can ride from my house down the beach to the local trails in a State park and come back home without putting the bike on a rack and having to drive it.

It really has become my workout and my solace. What a gift!! Love it!

Here is a video from the trails i ride (for free with no car from my house to the trails). I looks kinda lame I know but these trails are actually kind of technical in that they are very narrow and covered in big roots often right in the middle of the switchback. It's a challenge to keep it smooth and rewarding when you develop a groove.

Just picked up my second bike after 5 solid months on the felt hardtail.

GIANT Anthem x2 29er.

Amazing difference with the 29er. Don't think I'll ever go back to the 26er again.
You carry so much more speed and things you have to negotiate and work on the 26er you float over on the 29er. End up with a much smoother though still invigorating ride.

Maestro suspension is magic. Only 27lbs for a 29 full suspension too.

I just got done building a new Santa Cruz Tallboy CF 29er....Im still keeping my Ventana 26er's though as i like the handling through the technical parts...so far the 29er has been fun! Im at 28lbs including the gravity dropper seat, which is a 1lb and an XL frame..

I put a remote adjust seat post on my Niner, and it's probably the best bike part purchase I've made.

Thing looks sweet. know what you mean on the 26er. Took my old one out the other day and realised I missed the way it hooked up but after five minutes I was wishing for the 29er.

Enjoy the tallboy.
