F12 blown diffuser--do they have it and, if so, does it use exhausts?
I got the hint that the F12 might have a blown diffuser to add to the downforce. Still trying to find out what it is. I looked up "F1 blown diffuser" on the net and
I got the idea it is a tunnel with a fan in it already used on some GP cars but that in GP racing there was a big to-do about it using exhaust gases which I don't see would happen on a street car because that would be gases that wouldn't be going through the catalytic converter. On the other hand adding exhaust gases plus exhaust gases would really accelerate the gas through the tunnel. Here's the story on the Clampdown on Blown Diffusers in GP: http://www.f1rules.com/f1-fia-blown-...ad-as-planned/ Am I barking up the wrong path? Techno-Dummy |

The F12 does have a blown diffuser, but it does not use the exhaust in anyway. Instead the air that is normally trapped in the rear wheel arches is ducted into the two tier diffuser. It is no where near as efficient or effective as a true blown diffuser in F1.

In the F-1 car, the blown diffuser is used to increase downforce by blowing a stream of air onto a wing--that increases downforce. What happens is that when the car is in the corner, and the driver lifts off the accelerator, the engine keeps revving to blow air across the wing.
