Hey both,
The blue SABA car is today owned by an Italian guy, named Pedro (driving for the Bassano Team). Either it's the original Bussoni car from 1983 or a replica of that car. My friend Elvio from Italy (son of Franco Corradin, who drove a 308 GTB in the Italian series around 84-85) told me some weeks ago that this car has been prepared by Cazzola. Here is another picture. |

Group 4 parts
The name of that place rings a bell, is it the place near Venice? They seem to have built a number of original cars plus are still doing so today I believe (see pics(

can you still buy the gr4 michelotto wheel flares or you have to get the whole rear clip?
typically the gr4 car ran with stratos 8x15 and 8x12 wheels. some of the later cars had 8x10's in the rear? they look a little smaller visually? although its difficult to source tires for that wheel size , to bad they dont make replica 8x10's any detail photos on how the chassis was strengthen besides the substantial roll cage? i always wonder how mitchelotto took so much weight out the cars while adding more strength to the chassis. great post guys hf Last edited by hyenahf; 09-18-2009 at 12:13 PM. |

Does anyone have a record of chassis number of 308 Gr 4 Michelotto ?
Since years, a book should be published in Italy about these cars, but due to some (strange ?) reasons, it is always postponed. The writer is a famous 1/43 Ferrari models in Torino, Italy. If anybody has some news about this book ... |

Tyres
The tyres are a problem with the 15" stratos wheels, in the UK you can still get the Michelin TB15 tyres that these cars ran with originally, I have also seen a Stratos rep on these wheels, from memory it had Yoko AVS tyres on it. The wheels are still available as replicas through Hawk cars in the UK, mad from aluminium and I believe are made by compomotive exclusivley for Hawk. There is also a guy in Italy who sells on ebay with original Campagnolo Magnsium Stratos wheels.....they are not cheap however!
Omicron engineering are also in the process of getting some Stratos wheels re-tooled in the same widths but 16". Although I think there have been some delays with this project. This would certainley make tyre choice a bit easier. From attached you can see some shots of an original Michelotto chassis, apart from the cage, there were some mods to let in extra tubes around the front (round instead of square round the front battery tray, plus the mods at the front for the removable clips, and on later cars there seemed to be additional tubes in the footwells. I guess mods were made from car to car as lessons learned were applied. The Michelotto body panels were also much lighter than even the fibreglass cars. I have seen various figures from 980kg to about 1050kg on the finished weight for these cars, would be interesting to know what they actually did weigh ready to go? I believe you can still buy the total clips (Tour De Course has details), and I think MAT in Finland are in the process of making moulds just for the extensions, plus various other parts. You can see their car on the attached link. www.mat.fi Then go to projects. This is just an awesome car that these guys turned out, but they have dealt with some really fantastic cars which you can see on their projects page. Would be great if a book did get published on the subject, but I am guessing that record keeping was probably not a priority when these cars were built, so digging up all the necessary material to write a book could be a challenging task. Hats off though to the Author if one does get published. I think for chassis numbers there is a post on the internet either on QV500 or one of the other links. I have not saved the link, but should be easy to find in Google. |

Next MAT car
Hi Morten, thats looking good, see the front structure is in, looks like there is a bit more work starting from a US spec car as the front structure was more beefed up for the impact bumpers compared to a Euro car.

Hi Simon,
You're right, the US car is somewhat heavier in the front and rear, but that's not a big issue ...it's just weight to reduce :-) Stay tuned, more pictures to come... Morten |

simon, morten
thanks for posting, the MAT site great reference. it looks like it hasnt been update for awhile. oilo fiat livery look fantastic. give the level of detail of the build, im surprised they didnt go out of the way to get a period correct 3 spoke personal or momo veloce steering wheel i think the avs 285 tires are out of production that normally are fitted to 10" other cars that use this size, silhouette, R5turbo (gotti), gr4 panteras etc are running out of options. TB are great but are really a R-compound and are $$$. 12" wheels are much easier to source i recall. it make good sense to do 16" for tire selection although it would look as authentic. i guess the strengthening was as extensive as i image. the big roll cage must add a ton of stiffness to the chasiss. i have an old factory photo from a book that shows a usa spec next to a euro. to bad all that extra metal dosent contribute to torsional stiffness being on the ends of the frame. i wonder how light they got their replica cars down to? all the micholotto cars ran without brake boosters and custom pedal box?? Hey hyenahf,
The Michelotto cars ran with exactly the pedalbox you see on my car above, THAT's the group IV homologated pedalbox (impossible to obtain anymore). The MAT site is actually quite updated, only missing is the 308 GTB being prepared right now - watch out, stay tuned, there will be loads of fantastic pictures. You may think the site looks a little old, but that's not the case. The F-projects was on hold due to the recreation of the group B Toyota Celica - make yourself a good cup of coffee, and spend 30 minutes to go through the 700 pictures - you will enjoy it :-) Morten |

Hi Morten
What size master cylinders did the michelotto cars use? One of the only things I don't seem to be able to find info on. |
