#45 Pan Am Plate

I’m working in a book about Alfonso de Portago and the sight of the actual #45 plate he shared in his very first taste of motor racing as frightened passenger of his then recently acquired # 0286 spyder Vignale driven by L. Chinetti has prompted to complement that shot info with a period image of youthful Chinetti showing the plate just before the start of their short-lived 1953 run. Sadly, being a newcomer I need ato know how I can send it through. Pls advise. Tks.

Panam. Pegaso plates

Being the author of a recent Pegaso sports car book, these genuine Carrera plates have fuelled my imagination once more and can’t resist to join a couple of expresive images of smart Palacio-Fernández Touring-bodied barchetta before and after his spectacular flight during the early stages of last edition of the gruelling Mexican race.

What new Pegaso book? I want it! I have the old Croma-Cross book, but some friends want it, and when and if one can find it, it is VERY expensive.

Pegaso book

The book is published in Spanish by "Edicions Benzina" of Platja d'Aro, Spain.
Can find more info in their Web site:

Panamericana 1954: Club badges on Chinetti-De Portago's car

I know it's extremely difficult to guess, but could anyone identify the badges on Chinetti's car nose just in front of the Ferrari logo?

Nice old thread. Should try to update. The Chinetti car you are looking for is from 1953 not 1954. I will look for you.

We are having a special model theme in the Ferrari Expo 2011 model contest for Carrera Pan America cars next year. I am building 2 BBR Ferrari kits and 1 BBR Porsche kit for the event.

You're right, that was IV Panamericana, in 1953. The car ran the 1954 edition too, but that's another history.

Tom Tanner/Scale Designs/Ferrari Expo 2011 model contest and show-Chicago April 2011
There's a couple of 1/43 models of this car:

Top Model:

http://img695.imageshack.us/img695/6...nttulo1lsu.jpg

MG_Model:

But in my oppinion the first brand to make the model improvised a lot when drawing these badges - they made the lateral ones oval, and they were clearly not - and the other brand copied them.

I still cant figure it out. I have a few more pictures of the car but you just can't tell. Maybe its an autoclub sticker. I found another car with a similar type sticker from 1953, but not the same and it was an autoclub. The 1/43rd decals are very undetailed, so they did not know either. Maybe this thread should be in vintage section.

Sportscar Club Of America sticker.

Thank you.

We need more Carrera Pan Americana photos!!!

If you want to see some nice handbuilt models from the Carrera Pan Americana, come and see the Expo model contest next year. The model quality at this show is very high.

Yes, I had arrived to the same conclusion, although I though the letters background was silver, I'll have to correct this. For the left one (right in the picture) I've drawn an ANA logo, which looks rather like the one in the picture. The other two are just fantasy, but "si non è vero è ben trobato", like Italians say...

I have a photo which show part of the stickers involved with a somewhat sharper detail.

Thanks for the close up photos. I found a few PanAm photos and a old Pirelli ad reprint at alfabb and some other public picture websites. These are for research only.
Some are on the last page also.
