Totally different car and only you can make that decision. I loved my California, but already had two daily drivers so I optioned to trade mine in as well for a 458. Only problem is, I've been driving a Porsche for the last month instead of a Ferrari as I wait for the 458 to be built.

Is the 458 a spider?

Also waiting for a 458 spyder allocation to trade the Cali for, but might take up to 2 years (at sticker) . Before doing anything, consider trading it in. With such a high dollar car, the tax advantage usually puts it on par with private sales, at least in TX (6.25%). Without it, a private sale is definitely the way to go. Good luck.

I did just that - I traded it in and lost 3 grand from when i bought it - I have owned ALOT of exotics and i have to say that Cali was not for me! My 458 on the other hand is the best car I have ever owned... period!

Now I'm confused. Do you have a 458 allocation or do you already own it?

funny you say that...

i bought my 2012 cali to get in line for the 458 spider at MSRP

now i have used the rear seats soooo many times i cannot imagine going to a pure 2 seater
i was coming from a gallardo spyder, and i would bottom the front end on every single entry/exit... if i remembered to use the front nose lift i would hold up traffic

i haven't hit the nose on the cali yet

could use a little more hp but otherwise a superb car!

The '11 must be the car with the brake issue? http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=376502

Why is it a known recall? Or are you showing off your forum detective skills?

Mine has the lift system so I have been good - I have a couple of reg cars as drivers if I need the rear seats

I would be interested in hearing your feedback about moving from the Cali to 458. Any regrets as far as comfort and top-down driving?

My Rover is my daily but it's a lot more fun using the rear seats in the Ferrari Cali than the boring daily

458 very comfortable and quiet at reg throttle - not much of. Vert guy so that issue didn't bother me the Cali was just bland - good for a new buyer or someone who hasn't had other crazy exotics before - plus the car had no wow factor to me

Ok so this is very interesting to me. You trade your Cali with a 3K hit and get to ride a 458 until 2013. That is very fascinating. Can you elaborate on the "bridge" car that your dealer offered. I am thinking of trading and if I can get a bridge car then I am in!

Please more details. Who is your dealer, perhaps my dealer can contact him or something, if that makes sense?

Wow. Never thought the Cali would be thought of as bland.

Hey, have you driven a Koenigsegg or Pagani by any chance? Wonder how those compare with the 458, especially the latest models, the Agera R and Huayra. Yes, I know they cost many times the Italia, but that doesn't stop people comparing a ZR1 with the 458, which have about the same price difference ratio . Just curious, mostly on comfort, fit and finish, and driving experience. It's obvious both perform better than the Italia, but the difference is probably less than we think. And I MUCH prefer a NA engine than FI, even with a lot less power.

And no, the Cali doesn't have the 'wow factor' to me either. Most people don't realize it's a Ferrari until they see the badge. I like that. But doesn't feel like a sports car IMO.

The wow factor diminishes over time when you own one and drive it. But for those who don't have one, it still wows. To me, it is a wolf in sheep attire and that's also why I like it. I DON'T want to draw (too much) attention. But it is so competent, and is so well rounded and is so easy to drive all the time that I can see why some call it bland. Those close to me think I'm crazy to be still car shopping looking for a " fun" weekend car when I already have the Cali. I guess in order to be exciting, a car should be difficult to drive everyday, a little rough around the edges, and have its requisite quirks. If that's the case, then the Cali misses the mark.

Interesting. Ya I never had any exotics just 997.1 carrera s. I have opportunity to move to silver 2011 italia for net 60-70k but don't feel it's worth it. I know I will miss the convertible experience and two of my best friends have 458 spiders so I think I will just wait a couple of years and move to one of those either Bianco Avus or Nero Daytona.
