While not exactly ugly, it's not elegant or sensual either.

No, its by far not the best looking car

The quality is admirable but the thing is sort of a flying elephant

I'd much rather drive a Pagani Zonda or the Hennesey Venom

with 1000 hp you need a elephant to house it, agreed I would rather have many other cars before the Veyron.

It's a cool car no doubt, but for some reason I don't like the early versions. I prefer the ones with the updated headlights.

Do i love it?

No. I don't.

I truly appreciate the engineering behind the car and I will admit that it looks good in person (especially if its all black). However, to me, it is a VERY expensive version of a 911 Turbo S. Its outrageously fast, has awd, has a paddleshift trans, and an extremely luxurious interior.

I resect the car a ton, but it seems like too much of a science project to me. I like cars with passion, like a Zonda or F50.

Saw two today, an SS at Miller in that incredible blue carbon fiber, and an original in light blue at McLaren of Greenwich (the two lots are like a 1/4 of a mile apart, with a Ferrari showroom between them!)

The car may not be beautiful but man does the amount of care put into every curve, line and panel, as well as how everything interacts, make it difficult not to be drawn to the damned thing.

Thanks to Miller, I've seen two in two-tone: one was silver on metallic white, the other was red on black.

Given the way the car comes together by the rear of its doors, I have to think that major stylistic decisions were made on the assumption that cars would get two-tone finishes. (Too many lines and gaps clash in single color paint jobs in this area, whereas in the two-tone finishes this area makes more sense.)

I wouldn't want one of these cars for myself - I'd be more into the CGT's handling or the Zonda F's GTness - but there's lots to admire and be awed by in the Veyrons.

The blue car is actually a Grand Sport.

Do all GS have a transparent top? I ask because the roof on the car we saw wasn't transparent.

Yes, it is transparent, but very dark from the outside.

Since this is the hot Veyron thread right now . . .

From evo's review of the Vitesse:

Quote:
Extraordinary. Unique. Thrilling. It has been said many times, but the Veyron's single most impressive feature is its ability to sustain seemingly endless levels of acceleration. But this is evo, and raw pace is nothing without driver involvement - and perhaps what's not said enough is that the Veyron engages with the driver more than you'd expect. The steering is light and responsive, the brakes offer terrific feel and the throttle response good. The driver controls and feedback are such, and this will sound absurd, that you can hurl the car around pretty soon after stepping inside for the first time. And of course, with the roof removed the visceral dial goes all the way up to 11.

Negatives? You feel the weight of the engine and gearbox pushing you forward in the braking zone, which in turn translates into understeer. Get on the power, and this is forgotten as the car hooks up and fires you onwards. Traction is never an issue - but then we didn't drive it in the wet...
Quote:
In pure performance terms, only Koeniggsegg and Pagani get close - and subjectively speaking there's a sense of indomitable strength in the Bugatti that neither rival can match.
Quote:
The Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse, while not ultimately as engaging as an Enzo, Carrera GT or the Pagani Zonda, is all this and more - offering overall driveability, unburstable engineering, colossal acceleration and the kudos of being the world's fastest roadster. It is a magnificent car.

One more . . .

Quote:
Former racer Pierre-Henri Raphanel, Bugatti's official test driver and quite possibly the world's bravest man, says the only thing preventing the Veyron from going beyond 270 mph is tires. Raphanel, who set a production car record top speed of 268 mph in a Veyron Super Sport at VW's Ehra-Lessien test track in July, 2010, says Michelin runs the Veyron's massive meats on its tire test dyno at 270 mph -- the fastest it can spin -- for 20 seconds, then at 250 mph for 20 seconds. It repeats that cycle two more times. Then the tires explode.
Quote:
Tires are why the Grand Sport Vitesse's 255 mph top speed is artificially imposed, confirms engineer Jens Schulenberg. Engine power is not the problem: "We could go faster," he says. Gulp.
Quote:
Michelin will only allow two sets of tires -- they cost about $42,000 a set -- be fitted to the Veyron before the rims -- $69,000 a set -- also have to be replaced to ensure the integrity of the bead seal at high speed.

Appreciate it as a technological achievement but so what. You can take a Porsche Turbo like FF did and make it go 240.
An acquaintance of mine has one and says its no fun to drive accept to garner attention. He likes his F40 MUCH more. Plus, and this is funny since he is extremely wealthy, he hates the maintenance costs which are ludicrous

What is funny about that? People who generally earn wealth don't get their with reckless spending...

I "appreciate it as a technological achievement but" if it doesn't handle exceptionally well, so what?

Give me a CGT any time . . .

I can assure you, they handle exceptionally well and are a blast to drive. Your friend obviously doesnt drive his too much. I just got back from the GoldRush Rally in mine.....spend 5 days driving it 1700 miles. Im going to go out on a limb and say anyone who bad mouths the car hasnt driven one or hasnt driven one enough. Its nothing short of amazing. I was a little curious myself with all the internet chatter about them and wondered about the high price tag.......No more wondering at all, I understand it perfectly.....the Veyron is one of the best. 1700 miles of pure enjoyment. Zero issues, Zero problems......and as far as attention......it garners less attention than Lambos I have actually.....a few pics maybe.....but alot less than what you would think, which is nice.
