Nothing is better than a testarossa

I have come to the conclusion that no car ferrari has designed and produeced including the Enzo is more beautiful, and destinct than a testarossa. The old man was ahead of his time when he introduced the testa. I tell ya, as the years go by, and newer cars designs begin taking a different shape, and testarossa, for its time, is the most exotic, and will become a collection piece in the near future. They are selling for a bargain today.

Ha!

I will say the Testarossa will never be mistaken for anything else. Not necessarily beautiful but striking. It is very much a creature of its time, which makes it cool. It might take the automotive snobs another 20 years to realize that.

Is it me or we see comments like this one popping more and more? I think it will soon be time for the TR to leave the shadow and get in the spotlight.

Not gonna happen for a number of years yet. The car has been washed out with the later models, performance wise and dare I say it looks wise. It's a great looking machine, but it's very dated. Unfortunately with 360's in and around the same price point of a clean tr most buyers are taking the 360. Far cheaper to service, parts are plentiful, and will drive circles around it in reverse. The tr really has nothing to offer in the sports car market, other then its a former icon of the eighties. Lovely car, but not on the same level as an equally priced 360.

I could agree with you about the 360 performance beeing better than the Testarossa, but i wouldnīt sell my Testarossa to buy a 360 , ítīs a boring Ferrari... i drove several 360īs , never liked it.

People will remember the 355 and the 430 but not the 360...

I guess that in 20 years there still be Testarossas around but not sure about the 360īs...

there is one thing that the 360 will never have ... a big V12 full of torque..

I would never own a 360. For me, the Ferrari I know died with the 355. There are far more of us than people realize. Nothing against the modern cars, but people who are cross shopping these cars aren't seeing the whole equation. The driving experience of the TR, 355, 328 and Countach are so much more than raw numbers. A Dino isn't a rocketship either, but the guy cross shopping that and a 430 misses the point.

The testarossa is IMHO the greatest Ferrari regular production car of the last 30 years. I will one day hopefully own a 355, than in all likelihood my Ferrari chapter will close. There are other Ferraris I like for sure, but none hold the passion for me that would likely keep me from wandering to other Marques. Especially when there are still Countaches, Fiat dino spyders, Jaguar E types and 930 turbos available.

I think that Ferrari has made many good cars but the two that stand out for me are the Testarossa and the Enzo.

My Garage
The more popular the testarossa, the more popular the 348...

I remember when Dinos were 50,000$ cars...

I remember when countaches were $60,000 cars...

I remember when Boxers were $50,000 cars...

I remember when Daytonas were only $100,000...

I remember when restored cars sold for more than barn finds...

I remember when a 1973 911s was $8000, and I bought the 77 instead (ouch)...

I remember when real estate by the water here was 25,000$ an acre...

I remember when my dad owned a big block mustang V8, that he got $50 for from the junk yard

I remember when water was free...

Fast forward 10-20 more years, and I can imagine my kids talking...

"Gee, I remember when my dad had that testarossa in the garage...under our bikes, near the lawnmower. Gee. It was a $50,000 car back then....Now I can buy a house with it!"

'Gee. Glad dad kept that 930. Can you believe those things were going for 30,000$?"

People want, what people want. The only reason values haven't sky rocketed is the lack of liquidity. Tough to buy a ferrari, if you can't make your house payment...

I seem to remember duesenbergs languishing after the great depression too...

Here is what I do know. Out of all the stuff you could have bought 10 years ago, a testarossa was not a bad way to go...

Stock market got killed...

Real estate got killed...

The Great Depression II is passing...

In light of all this, testarossa's are holding their own. Its still a $60,000+ car...How bad can that be ?

I was never much of a fan of the Testarossa...

Until I saw one in person. It definately has a presence and creates emotions when seen in person.

Any time I go to a car show with a testarossa or several present, I always catch myself looking over to where it/they are from various places on the field, like I do with no other model. It's been like that since I got into these cars in the late 80s.

The TR really does have a presence in person unlike anything else on 4 wheels.

OK well the 288 GTO does too, but in it's own way.

Even today it looks different from all other cars!!

Of course it's not as fast as a 430 or 550 , but as someone said you don't buy a Dino based on it's performance!!

I bought a 512tr a few months ago. The funny thing is that I was not actively thinking or looking for a TR.

I sold my 930 (out of boredom and really not having any Ferrari magic vs my 308) and found myself looking for a new model. At the time I was really thinking about a 355. I keep looking at the 355 but I really could not accept all of the inherent problems the motor has. The worst part was I can't see that anyone could point to the cause to the motor's failure. (Is it just bad headers, or bad valve guides, or bad connections causing lean conditions, or the sticky interiors?? Someone buys a "good one" only to still have a failure?)...sorry I digressed.

So my 13 year old son says..."Dad, I like the 512TR, what do you think?" I thought it was really cool that the car still had an effect on someone that young. From a pricing point, it was not that far from the 355. He could have said I like the 430 or 360, but no...it was the 512TR.

I was a little bummed to let go of an 1989 930 which there were fewer than 500 brought into the US. But then I realized there were only 408 of the 512trs brought to the US.

After having the car 3 months, I am truly amazed with how solid and smooth this car is. I dare say more people stop and stare at this black 512 than my screaming red 308.

For me I really like the updated interior of the 512tr over its predecessor, otherwise, I think they would be very similar.

I am just realizing I went off on a tangent to get back to the original post.....I just dont like the wind tunnel design of really any ferrari past the TR and 355. The 360, 430...and dare I say the new front engine 12s look so very bland. I am sure they are a blast to drive, but they dont look like Ferrais to me. (Im putting on my flame suit now)

+1 You couldnt give me a newer Ferrari, Lambo or Porsche. To many driver aids, power this and power that, paddle shift etc. I want to be totally involved with the drive and have to work it. They dont make em like that anymore

As a TR owner I can say that I love the car.....BUT.... an F-40 in the garage would defintely be a major, major KUDO!!!! I love my TR but if a F-40 showed up on the radar the TR might have to take a back seat to it. In in all, the TR is a fine example of a Ferrari. Still happy I have the privledge of owning one!!

That's why i always make the distinction between regular production Ferraris, like the TR, and the supercars like the F40, etc.

tf 308, totally agree with your longer post above. Good story.

I drove my 512TR to a get together at the lake this weekend. Virtually every visitor said something about its presence, looks, shape. Two people - who are not car fans - asked me to "please show it to me".

I drove it to the marina to pick up parts and the much older gentleman (owns marina) said, "that's one of the prettiest cars I've ever seen in my life."

Wherever I went, it just never ceased to delight. The 50 mile trip home, an absolute air conditioned, flat 12 musical delight. Great cars.

I absolutely agree that the TR is stunning. It still amazes me when people pull over and get out their cameras and cell phones to take a picture.
