Help...insurance for Ferrari's

Just received notice that Chartis are no longer in the business of insuring Ferraris! Anyone got any suggestions where I could find reasonable insurance for a 1989 328 GTS?

Any pointing in the right direction gratefully appreciated!

Best regards,

Janne

PS: Please don't mention Shannons -last time they were double the price after putting me through hoops as to whether I was a 'serious' car fanatic...having had my CAMS licence wasn't enough for them!!!

I found Shannon's to be a total pain in the arse.

Wanted me to jump through a heap of hoops as though I was a pimply 17 year old.
Told me to come back once I'd owned the car for a year.
No chance of that. They can jam it.

I went with Dawes - easy as pie.
Of course I haven't made a claim yet so that may be a whole other story!

You must have lied.

I made the mistake of being honest.

Thanks for this - will follow up tomorrow.

Try being a girl and speaking to Shannons! I had my CAMS licence, owned 2 Ferrari's and their comment was 'we are getting closer to qualifying you as a serious driver'. What do you have to do - drive F1??!!! When the quote came in so high (in retrospect I wonder if I got a 'female' price) I basically told them that they had wasted 15 minutes of my time.

They saw the colour of your hair and decided that you must just be an old man who couldn't drive very fast!

I ended up telling them the same thing. It's not a "female" thing.
It took 20 minutes of my time for them to finally tell me (a nearly 40 year old male) that I didn't have enough "high performance vehicle" experience, but I should call them after a year of Ferrari ownership and they'd be happy to help.

Regardless of the fact that you can buy a Bogan-mobile which has similar performance to my 355, or that I operate multi-million $ high performance vehicles for a living every day.

Even after explaining my two years of Datsun 180B ownership they were no help.

Stuff 'em. Try Dawes.

Mmmm, I'm also with Shannons but my premium is higher than yours, significantly, around $1000 from memory. I have agreed value though so perhaps that has something to do with it. Also would the fact that yours is on club plates help your premium PP? Other than that Shannons have been fine for me.

Will get a quote from the supporter of the club though when it's up for renewal.

My experience with Shannons so far has been positive, easy to deal with, competetive quotes on both old and new cars, good savings for vehicles on club plates too. I qualified for their fleet discount last year with a mix of vehicle which gave a further saving across the whole policy.
Only dissapointment was with the 355C, they could not offer a competitive rate for that.

1: I would imagine the agreed value on your GTB is quite high - hence the premium.
2: Club plates do reduce the premium
3: The garage location ( postcode) has a remarkeable influence on the premium.
