458 is a very reliable car but has had its fair share of initial problems. Be sure that if you buy an early car (2010) check with the dealer re any recalls/software updates etc re transmission, fuse conditioner, crankshaft etc but the car should most likely be still under warranty so get this all checked out.

The DCT is not like the previous manual F1 gearboxes so clutch wear is negligible compared to 360/430. even if you use launch control I believe the DCT is pretty hardy. Brake rotors are standard carbon ceramic and you should get at a reasonable life out of these esp with no track usage. Check brake pads when you buy the car and the dealer with give you estimated life remaining.
I think that's about as good an answer as you'll get, as most 458 owners haven't put enough miles on their cars to give better answers. A great many put 7-8000 miles on their cars over the entire duration of their ownership, not per year, so really wouldn't know how long consumables like brake pads last. At best, they can give reasonable projections based on their experiences to date.

I'm not a 458 owner so I'll add only that you should make sure the recall was done on the car if applicable. Early cars had adhesives/bonding materials in the engine compartment that could catch fire. http://wheels.blogs.nytimes.com/2010...r-is-recalled/

I'm considering getting a 458, probably a used one with low miles. I would more than likely put 5000-7000 miles a year on the car at a minimum. I've been reading on here that this car is pretty reliable. I wont "track" the car but will drive it aggressively on the street, highway. What would be the expected life on the clutch, brake rotors and brake pads? Anything else on the car that would be considered a high wear item that I'm not thinking of? Thanks everyone!!
Welcome to the forum and the ferrari family.

I have owned 3 F cars and the 458 is the esiest to live with, a good choice. I love the sound and the race mode. Before you buy the F car you can have a dealer check the service history including any damage from accidents. I had a small 7 inch scracth on my 458 and it cost $7 grand to fix it. Yhe good news is the repair was perfect the bad news of course was the expense.

FTI I have 6500 miles on my 2010 458 and no problems yet.

Good luck and enjoy in good health.

Lee

Welcome to the forum. The 458 is an excellent choice. IMHO, it's still to much of a caged beast for use as a DD here in LA LA land due to the congested traffic but is very well suited to drive hard on winding open back roads that are all around LA. Consider a PPI on a used car no matter where it's from (private or at a dealer) for peace of mind on your investment.

Just freakin' by the car.

If you can afford it, buy it, drive it, stop worrying, and be happy.

Hey Dude - welcome to Fchat; I'm just around the corner in Coquitlam.

the high wear items can be random and can be very expensive - I'd suggest be ready for a $20k hit. You'll likely never need it, but these cars are becoming more and more dealer fixable only. the biggest item you haven't covered is depreciation. Look at what a 430 or 360's done over the years, and expect the 458 will be the same. Depending how long you hold on the car for - your depreciation will put the cost of a clutch and brakes to irrelevant.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the car is a fantastic experience - but there are more affordable first Ferrari experiences available.

PS: Welcome to summer

I could see maybe some after market wheels but lower the car?
You might be able to drop it another 2cm but at a huge cost. Why bother?
Go listen to one before you buy that nice exhaust. You could probably save yourself another 10k.

Gladly, the post that Jerry is amused by infers that the OP is a teenager who is bored, because "schools out". Whether or this is true has yet to be seen, however it happens quiet a bit that a young guy will come here simply to ruffle some feathers or lie about who/what they are. The user name "The rich dude" is definitely something that a teenager was choose, unless of course this user is telling the truth in which case all is well in Ferrarichat land.

Consider the joke explained, if a bit dry .
