so on the driver side, there's a concave area for a plastic sticker(arrowed).
So obvsiouly the sticker isn't easy to reproduce while the concave is.

Shall I make the mold to include this concave or shall I just make it flat? since its on the bottom of the mirror, it won't be easily seen anyways.....

If these are to put on your 360 then why does authenticity matter?

Anyone with a CS will order the real thing regardless of cost.

How about using a 3D scanner- and make a complete replica
CS mirror set? ;-) I bet you could sell lots of those.

i frankly have no idea what a 3d printer is, nor do I know how it works.....
I only know my new acquaintance in china is able to do carbon fiber molds
    so.....

    um.... its hard to say
there are 2 schools of CS anthenticity
    1. vin matters, if the vin is a CS vin, then it is a CS
    2. a car is made of its parts, if all parts are cs parts, then it is a CS, regardless of vin

so I might be in the 2nd school

i've already made a few CS parts myself , with the help of my friend. Now on to the mirrors

That's not true at all. Even a real CS without it's original parts takes a ding on value. That's how Ferrari sells Classiche.

Also, this reproduction mirror isn't a CS part.

I am surprised it's not easy to tell how to get it out of there.

The 360 CS part is: 65889400 OUTSIDE THERMOMETER
The 360 part is: 65889400 OUTSIDE THERMOMETER

It looks like it (#59) is made up of two parts. It doesn't unscrew?

Oh and I would pass on the depression in the housing. You can hear a CS whistle when they are coasting by and I think it's because of the vortex created by this impression stamp! LOL /jk

Thanks, I deleted my question since I found the picture in my files! That company is difficult to research. It would be great if they sold replacement parts!

They are press fit, I have been working my own CS style mirror for my two cars for some time now.
I have all the parts including the pivot units both right and left sides, that was the hard part to get right, OEM spec heated mirrors and my own carbon housing. I just need time to finish them off.

steve, does the inside of your reproduction mirror have the exact shape as the OEM?

No way would not let anybody mould from OEM CS mirrors that is just crazy they are way to exspensive to do that.
I have a hand held 3D scanner it would only take 15 minutes to scan. PM me I'm in Australia

I'll say they are close and leave it at that. It's my own take on a CS mirror only made better.
CS carbon is years old now and I hate 90gsm carbon no skill in making parts with that size twill.

I have a pair of original CS mirrors here I've just had a look at them. I think if you're making pattern replica parts they should be exactly the same, including the moulding. Might look cleaner without but they're more charming as replica's with.

    I am also for without.
As soon as you anyway creat a replica, why not doing better?

Replica on a 360 is fine they would still be exspensive to make if made correctly.

I would say make it with. Your going to the trouble of making a mould, it is not a part that needs improvement, just a reasonable price and availability. It's something most people appreciate -when they cannot tell the difference between them. IMHO

The stone carbon mirrors (non hinged) are fragile and low quality. It would be nice to have another option.

how would you tell the quality of one carbon fiber non-critical parts like the mirror
    from another?

Hit it see if it breaks :)

I only make pre preg carbon autoclave cured parts, I can spot a non-autoclave part a mile away just by looking at it, vacuum only is next best after that it's a poor cousin walk away.

    1. How the two parts fit together. And how they fit to the door frame.
    2. Rigidly
    3. How they hold up over time.
    4. Mirrors are/are not convex.
    5. Resistance to sunlight & heat
