355 Improvements. What order?
The 360 steering wheel thread had me thinking.
If you were starting out with a completely standard 355, in what order would you perform the usual modifications? This of course assumes an owner like me, who can't afford to do everything in one big (and very expensive) hit, but may like to do these over time, one by one. I'm interested in value for money, bang for your buck etc. In no particular order, my list may include Headers Exhaust Cats ECU Intake System (Gruppe M) Suspension mods (Challenge / Fiorano) Gold connector kit 360 steering wheel And so on. Feel free to add others, but I'm interested in the collective view on what order should these be done, if at all

Of the things you listed that I also did, I used the following order/logic
Cats / exhaust, my headers were newly replaced by the PO and there is good evidence that they live longer or don't fail with free flowing cats and a free flowing exhaust so I went with Hyperflow cats and Capristo 3 exhaust. Gold connector kit, it cleaned up several odd behaviors and sharpened the car up. Intake, went with the fabspeed CF and filter upgrade. |

I had a completely stock F355 Spider that I kept that way except for a challenge grill.
![]() oh yeah...had the 5 piece aluminum pedal set as well. Had great performance and no issues all stock. 1st pic is at 160mph, 2nd pic at 180mph!

I already have a non standard exhaust and the cats were next on my list. I am leaning towards Hyperflows. There seems to be a large differential on price between brands with the Hyperflows somewhere in the middle. My car runs beautifully as it is and I've had no problems at all. Aside from the exhaust and a challenge grille which I added at purchase it is totally stock. |

1. Headers
2. Cats 3. Gold kit 4. Exhaust 5. Rebuild suspension actuators and replace shock gears 6. Wheels 7. Intake 8. Challenge grill 9. Radar/jammer Done. That is just me. #4 was done when I bought my car. I have done #1 and #2 since. I am currently doing #5 and will do #3 this winter when the driving season is over.

Forgive my ignorance, but what are #3 Gold Connectors, #5 Susp actuators/shock gears, and #7 Intake?
Also, it would be helpful if one of you could list some price ranges associated with the mods. For example, I am looking at a 355Spider that has had #1, #2 and #4 done as well as valve guides. If I did #s 3, 5 and 7 I'd be interested in seeing how much I'd need to budget. Thanks. ketel Quote:

The gold connector kit is a comprehensive kit that comes with tools and connector pins to replace most of the connectors associated with the engine and tranny (F1) with gold plated pins. This may sound a bit gimmicky but it is a solid upgrade developed from allot of testing that showed that data in the harness was getting corrupted or dropped which lead to allot of vague behaviors and the car not performing as it should. While my car ran good when before the gold kit it would do some strange things such as a random ragged idle. Those issues went away after the kit and the whole car just runs better, and feels more sharp. You can get the kit from http://scuderiarampante.com/ and they have different versions depending on what car you own and the options your car has. I think it was around $1300~1400. Also, the pins that are not available in gold are also replaced with new standard pins.

So, who wants to explain the shock gears and the intake mods for me? ketel |

Yes, they make a kit for the 6spd manual, it provides the exact same benefits for the engine but does not include the F1 parts.

It was very easy and felt like the car could do it all day. Temperature never got hot and was stable. Only on a closed course or racetrack
![]() Speedo wasn't too far off either as the gps was reading low 170's at indicated 180

intake?
Is the "Intake" mod the carbon fiber air boxes that Fabspeed sells? or something else?
As to the Fabspeed airbox mod, any thoughts here? Experiences? Perspectives? Worth it? ketel |

I would go with Gruppe M. There are only a few modification I would do to my 355 and each one would be done proper.

The Grouppe M is a wonderful intake, the Fabspeed is less beautiful but still cleans up the intake path.
As to the "value" the same airbox top for a Camaro would be $200 tops, but for us it is $600 ish. Ferrari tax. |

Having done most of these I would probably do them in this order if starting over:
1. Headers - you can mess up your engine good if these go bad and you don't fix it 2. Cats - When not if this needs to be done 3. Gold kit - great peace of mind and makes a happier car 4. Exhaust - makes the driver smile every time you push on the throttle 5. Capristo bypass valve - gets rid of a VERY annoying bzzzzzzzz problem 6. Steering Wheel - makes the driver smile every time you grab the wheel 7. Aftermarket brake pads -gets rid of the squealing pig syndrome 8. Challenge grill - keeps things cooler 9. Radar/jammer - Keeps the smiling driver out of trouble 10. Wheels
