GTO Evo/F40 proto

Is this F40 prototype 1 or GTO Evoluzione 1?
Sorry for the quality, but this is a scan from a French magazine from 1994.

This F40 prototype is likely s/n 73015. Note the missing outside mirror on the driver side door which is the clue to that number. It was one of two examples present for the journalists to see at the Fiorano intro.

GTO Evoluzione (?)

I absolutely love this shot!
MO 1247 plate. It's from the same article as the other pic.

This is not an F40 prototype but rather a GTO Evoluzione with the yellow '1' in the side window. (F40 prototypes have been photographed with the yellow number '2' or '4' in the side window.) Interestingly the image above from 1994 publication has 5 vents on the rear fender which is unique and 5 is just like the F40 prototypes have. There are several versions of the GTO Evoluzione with a different example only having 4 vents mounted in a slightly more vertical style in the same place at the side on the rear fender. Also the GTO Evo in the 1994 published picture has the red rear wing assembly all in red. The 4 vent GTO has just the horizontal part of the wing painted black with the base still painted red. No yellow number in the side window of that example dating from 1987 when Jose Rosinski drove the GTO Evo at Fiorano.
The German car magazine Auto Motor und Sport also featured a story about a GTO Evoluzione in that period to.
Any more images around...excellent picture of the Evo from the rear view driving on the street!

GTO Evoluzione

One more. This is the opening shot of the article.

Is it a possibility that this GTO Evoluzione was used as a testing bed for the F40 project? Does anybody know what numbers have been spotted on F40 prototypes? I have seen quit a few, but I never saw 1 and 2. Pics anybody?

GTO Evoluzione Engine

This is a shot from the engine bay. Looks like they connected some testing equipment.

the 288C was the groupB race car effort, but when that series went dead, then the factory used it to develop the F40 production car from

Well-spotted. Articles from the period often featured a combination of several cars.

The excellent photographer Stephane Foulon took the MT pics. The view of the white quilted headliner for that article is an unusual F40 view.
Typically journalists back then brought their own photographer along for the story coverage.
Years later the same photographer was used for the Porsche CGT story in R&T.
