EXPERT wanted

I have found a car that I like however it is located nearly 3000 miles from where I live . I wanted to see if anyone knew of an expert on Dinos that is available for hire to look at a Dino GT. The car is located in California...
It has been restored and from the photos looks very good. That is about all I want to say at this point but any recommendations for an expert to go to the cars location and verify the car is correct would be helpful.
I have been collecting corvettes for years and have an expert that looks at all my cars before I make any purchases and this has worked very well for me so I am looking for a similar person for the Dino....
Thanks
Larry

Do you have a serial number? We may know the car.

I've owned Dinos for 19 years and will be in S. CA in 2 weeks, hopefully getting with other Dino owners on a drive to the Monterey weekend.
Is it in S. CA and does that time frame work?

Larry,

I'm not an expert but could offer an opinion if the Dino is in or near Orange County.

you could drag Tom S along, he's always up for an adventure.

I'm sure for a few bucks he'd be happy to offer an opinion.

He'd be only interested only if it was in an undiscovered barn and HE discovered it! He is entertained by our childish infatuation with the Dino.

Larry,

I am far from CA, but there are poeple offering here that are true Dino enthusiasts.

I understand, not wanting a steal to get away, but the offers you have had are from legit people.

PRIVATE MESSAGE them and you should get a response to start the process. KEEP IN MIND, you are asking knowledgable fans for their opinions, not someone removed from the market.

WE love these cars, and so will you.

Larry is a very serious guy when it comes to buying cars and not in the car business. We worked with him on a 550 purchase recently. Anyone reading this should know Larry is nothing but a straight shooter to do business with.

Scott,

Where'd that come from?

Pretty much out of left field, or did you have something to support that allegation? I got a PM from Larry, he seemed like a decent guy looking for a car, not a sleazy broker just in it for a quick buck.

Or am I wrong?

EW - Thank you for the PM.
Larry - I stand corrected from misinterpreting emails, apologies for my skepticism.

First of all, there has been a history of middlemen, profiteers, and second tier sellers doing the same here and while that is not you, sometimes it is difficult to tell them apart.

Secondly, I'm not sure from your post's wording what you really want. Both Freeman and I interpreted
"...verify the car is correct..."
to be a request for help from this forum on viewing a potential Dino candidate. Dinos are hot items now, so I understand your playing it close to the vest on details, but wouldn't you still proceed to a PPI?

You've also worked with Bradan and have been through the purchasing process, which my view of the steps would be:
1) Locate Dino candidate
2) Locate local shop capable to perform PPI
3) Review PPI results

Now I'm thinking that your original request was not help from this Dino forum to personally view the car but to recommend a shop to perform the PPI. If it is in Southern CA, then I'd recommend Carl at Blackhorse, others in the S. CA section do too:
Blackhorse Motors on La Cienega...good PPI shop??

Carl has restored many Dinos and knows the correct finish, plating, vinyl grain, etc and specifics about Dinos very well. OMGJon viewed David Steele's Platinum winning Dino as a reference for his early Dino project. David selected Carl to perform that restoration in 2003.

No problem Scott.
THanks to the help of many people on this forum I believe I have accomplished steps one and two . Once I get the results of the PPI i will likely contact others on this forum for interpretation of the results and may even ask someone to take a quick visual . I would be glad to post what I end up with . THrough the posts on this forum I have located 4 candidates one of which is likely THE car and that is the one I am having the PPi performed on in the next few days. Once I do find the car I can assure you it will be for my own use likely for many years.

Congratulations and welcome to La Famiglia, please let us know if you have any questions on anything we might be helpful with, how the controls work, details, minutia, etc.

A caution: if you are tall, careful on entering the cockpit so a knee does not accidentally hit a steering column stalk. Breaking them is easy, getting to them requires a 38mm ring nut socket which is a special tool.

I would also suggest you never use the factory jack, they can collapsed on the bodywork, damaging sheet metal.
